- work on core strength and flexibility. I do Muay Thai now, have done some BJJ and MMA. The one thing I see in newbie males is that they’re too “stiff in the hips.”
- work on condition, and focus on interval training. Among other things, start training with 1 minute sprint + 1 minute rest, then 2 minute sprints + 1 minute rest, etc. up to 5 minutes for 4-5 rounds.
- work on functional strength/plyometrics in general, but don’t get too hung up on strength, especially non-functional strength. (Too many newbie males get obsessed with getting muscles and forget the rest, and then wonder why they’re exhausted after 30 seconds of fighting.)

To increase your strength and flexibility I would look into starting a program like Matt Furey’s Combat Conditioning: http://mattfurey.com/conditioning_videos.html
